Michelle Camaya Julian is thrilled to be back in her hometown of San Diego and teach students from her professional experiences. Having graduated from San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts, she went on to attain a BA in dance from University of California, Irvine. Michelle has performed in Disney's 'The Lion King' over 2,500 times on Broadway, Las Vegas and national touring productions. Other professional credits include: 1st national touring companies - 'Fame, the Musical', Lynne Taylor-Corbett's 'Swing!' and Twyla Tharp's 'Come Fly Away'. Sit down performances include Twyla Tharp's 'Sinatra, Dance with Me' in Las Vegas and Encores! New York production of 'Kismet' (Ababu Princess). Michelle competed and was a finalist on Bravo TV's 'Step It Up & Dance', from the same producers of Top Chef & Project Runway. You can see her dancing in movies: Disney's 'Enchanted' with Amy Adams & Rob Marshall's 'Memoirs of a Geisha'.
Choreographically, Michelle has been associate choreographer with Mark Stuart Dance Theatre in New York and has assisted with productions: 'Standard Time' & 'The Wiz' (Maine State Music Theatre). She is a Filipino folk dance teacher with the non-profit dance company, Samahan Filipino American Performing Arts & Education Center, where she currently holds the position of Vice-President of the board.
Michelle attributes her successful career to her encouraging mother, Violeta, who passed away in Dec 2014 and her teachers - Donald Robinson (SDSCPA), Gina Angelique (Eveoke), Sandra James (Ballet Conservatory), Jim Conrow (City Moves!), Tony Salamat (Body Arts Center), Mary Murphy (Champion Ballroom Academy), Donald McKayle (UC, Irvine), Kathryn Irey (Stage 7), Ruby Chiong (Samahan) - who pushed her far beyond her personal limits.
Michelle is also certified in Bikram Yoga (2001) and Moksha/Modo Yoga (2010).
